Knotless vs box braids: how to choose

Both are classic protective styles and both include the braiding hair here. The difference is in how they are made and how they feel.

The short version

Box braids are the classic square-parted braid. Knotless braids start with your own hair and add the extension gradually, so the braid sits lighter at the root. Both are done with hair included at Peace Hair Braiding.

Time and price here

On Abla’s menu, box braids take about 3 hours 30 minutes and start at $160. Knotless braids take about 4 hours 30 minutes and start at $180. Jumbo sizes are quicker, and the final price depends on size and length.

How to choose

If you want the lighter feel at the root, ask for knotless. If you want the classic look and a slightly shorter appointment, box braids are a good fit. If you are unsure, tell Abla the size and length you want when you book, and she will confirm the price before she starts.

Either way, come with clean, detangled, completely dry hair.

How long they last

Most knotless and box braids last six to eight weeks with proper care. See the aftercare guide for the basics.
