Aftercare for braids

A few simple habits keep your style neat and your scalp comfortable.

The basics

  • Wear a satin bonnet at night. It cuts down on frizz and friction.
  • Use a light oil on the scalp. Keep it light so it does not build up.
  • Avoid water during the first week. Give the style time to settle.
  • Ask Abla about your style. She gives aftercare instructions at your appointment.

How long will it last?

Most styles last four to eight weeks with proper care. Cornrows usually look best for two to four weeks. Box braids and knotless braids last six to eight weeks.

When it is time to take them down

Box braids take down is a short service on the menu, and so is sewing take down. Booking the take down with your next style keeps things simple.
